日本の人材マネジメント(HRM、Human Resource Management)に興味をもつ海外の学者と、それに母国人として関心をもつ日本の学者のコラボレーションで生まれたのが本書です。きっかけは、神戸大学で開かれた、こじんまりした国際会議でした。それは、第1編者のラルフ・ベーベンロート准教授によってオーガナイズされました。神戸大学経済経営研究所に勤務される同氏は、財務にもHRMにも興味をもつ多彩な学者で、なによりも、海外との研究上の交流に熱心で、神戸大学の経営分野、とりわけ最近ではHRMに関して、何度か国際交流につながる研究会を開催してくれました。

そのたびに、わたしの専攻である組織行動論(OB、Organizational Behavior)がその隣接分野であるので、わたしの同僚や門下で、OBとHRMの交叉するところに、興味ある若い世代の研究者たちによい刺激を与えてくれました。それだけでも、若手研究者が世界にふれるいい機会だったと思っておりましたが、ベーベンロート氏のご尽力により、社会科学の名門出版社のラウトレッジ社から、出版されることになりました。出版に際しては、発表されたペーパーに加えて、さらに会議終了後、何名かの研究者に声をかけて、本書ができあがりました。

カンファレンスでは発表しなかったが、テーマにかかわりのある研究をしている大学院金井ゼミ修了生で、ワールドクラスの研究水準をめざし、世界に発信したいと思う門下や仲間たちが、高橋潔教授(日本企業の業績評価について)、平野光俊教授(日本企業における雇用の多様性)、服部泰宏氏(日本企業の心理的契約)、また、研究仲間の竹内規彦氏・竹内倫和氏(頼もしい兄弟学者による日本企業のSHRM、戦略的人材マネジメント)など、寄稿していただきました。わたし自身も、研究仲間といろんな形で長らく取り組んでいる「仕事で一皮むけた経験」の調査について、共同研究者の古野庸一氏と寄稿させてもらいました。海外からも、サンホセ大学のメアリー・ヨーコ・ブラネン教授、チュービンゲン大学のマーカス・プデルコ教授、合計で8名(6章)の寄稿を得ました。

日本の経営への関心が1980年代のように盛んではない時代に、また、厳しい時代であるだけに、日本の人材マネジメントシステムの特徴を、あらためて、欧米の学者とともに探求する一助に本書がなれば幸いです。
