This two-day course offers a comprehensive introduction to the analysis of empirical data through Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), focusing on its application in social science research. Participants will gain expertise in building, estimating, and analyzing path models using SmartPLS 4. The course covers various forms of path models, including mediation, moderation, and those incorporating higher-order constructs.
The seminar incorporates both theoretical content and hands-on exercises to guide participants through the entire process of integrating data into the model, specifying the model, analyzing it, and interpreting the results. The hands-on exercises utilize a sample dataset with a marketing focus. Additionally, participants will learn how to report PLS-SEM results in research papers. The course encourages discussions on research ideas or ongoing projects involving survey data or PLS-SEM.
The seminar employs explanatory slides and documents, which will be made available to participants.

High expectations are placed on new technologies such as business analytics (BA) to create a variety of benefits for management control (MC) departments. However, empirical evidence on this is scarce and ambiguous. In this study, we examine whether and how the extent of BA capabilities (BAC) and the extent of BA use in MC departments are related to transactional, informational, strategic, and transformational benefits. We draw on socio-technical systems theory and contingency theory and analyze survey data from 322 large German companies through partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). We find that the extent of BAC is positively related to the extent of BA use, which in turn is positively related to the extent of the benefits described above. However, organizational size negatively moderates the creation of benefits, as the relationship between the extent of BA use and the extent of benefits created in MC departments is smaller for larger companies. Additionally, we find that the existence of a data science department in larger companies is detrimental to MC departments in realizing a high extent of benefits from BA. Thus, this study provides important implications for the creation of benefits from BA for MC departments.

Numerous studies have explored the advantages of management control systems (MCSs) for financial performance (FP) and environmental MCSs (EMCSs) for environmental performance (EP). Based on a dyadic survey of 112 large German firms, we find that EMCSs have the capacity to enhance both FP and EP. Employing partial least squares (PLS) structural equation modelling (SEM), we delve into the contextual factor of‘integration of MCSs and EMCSs’, operationalized through two dimensions: technical integration and management integration. These dimensions serve as moderators in assessing the relationship between EMCS and EP or FP, respectively. We find that the EMCS–EP relationship is positively moderated by management integration, while the EMCS–FP relationship is positive only when both management control systems are technically integrated. Our results offer insights into the contingencies governing the utilization of control systems to enhance performance. We underscore that the manner in which these systems are integrated is crucial for the relationship between EMCS and performance. Consequently, both the level and the type of integration are crucial and associated with different types of performance. Thus, firms have to address different competencies within the organization. This results in practical implications for the management regarding the allocation of resources for integration of MCS and EMCS.

This seminar will introduce and discuss contemporary challenges and tendencies among manufacturing Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises. On the basis of two ongoing research projects in Denmark, the seminar will present servitization (product-oriented companies expanding their offerings with product-enabled services) and organizational resilience (the ability of companies to resist and even benefit from externally imposed changes) as trends within the research on manufacturing SMEs. The seminar will discuss both papers already published within servitization and organization resilience – and seek to identify potential avenues for future research within the research fields.

The seminar will present and discuss the phenomenon of Responsible Innovation as a theoretical and empirical field. The point of departure is an extensive study of Danish manufacturing Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises that are working with responsible/sustainable innovation as part of their strategy. The seminar will outline some of the conceptual frameworks, which describe both the enablers and barriers of responsible innovation. And the data from the Danish research project will seek to partly depict a critical perspective on the prior frameworks and partly present a potentially useable and useful theoretical scaffolding for future studies within the field.

概要
Most high-ranked international journals have an implicit or explicit bias towards quantitative research. As an editor-in-chief at Creativity and Innovation Management, René Chester Goduscheit has made some reflections on how this can be –and (more importantly) whether this can changed. Often, studies on the basis of qualitative research have a tendency of being less convincing and more anecdotical than large-N quantitative research. However, a substantial part of these challenges can be overcome by a proper research design. The seminar will also introduce recent methodology developments like Qualitative Comparative Analysis that potentially can alleviate the challenges of publishing qualitative studies.

Major rail infrastructure projects have potential to generate economic benefits beyond conventional transport benefits. The extra benefits include improved value of urban realm, arising from place-making and precinct activation initiatives as part of the project scope. A lack of economic parameter values hinders the inclusion of such benefits in economic appraisals. This talk presents a methodology designed to estimate the Willingness-to-Pay for key place-making attributes and showcases an application in Sydney, Australia.

概要
From a Schumpeterian perspective, different organizational strategies are of relevance and must be operated in a parallel way. Induced by revolutionary technologies like digitalization, robotics and artificial intelligence, the increase of “prosperity”, as it is established in the traditional Neo-Schumpeterian Evolutionary System (NSE), has to be developed toward a reformed Post-Schumpeterian Evolutionary System (PSE), as an optimal approach where “sustainability” besides “prosperity” is a dominant guideline for the activities of economic agents. To establish such an unrestricted and undirected system in the Schumpeterian tradition the National Accounting System (NSA) should be transformed and further developed into a system working with “true prices”, which include “social costs”, as the scale of evaluation.
